Darius B. Hill, Jr.

Darius B. Hill Jr., 94, of Little Rock, passed away April 14, 2012. D.B. was born in Knoxville, Tenn., and raised in Little Rock, the son of Darius B. Hill Sr., and Anna Wayland Hill. He graduated from Little Rock High School and Stanford University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 27th Naval Construction Battalion (SEABEES) of the U.S. Navy, being honorably discharged in 1945. In 1948, he married Shirley Ann Vestal. He was a lifelong highway contractor and partner of D.B. Hill Contractor. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where he served numerous terms on the vestry and was senior warden. He is a past president of the Arkansas Chapter of the Associated General Contractors and a life national director. He was a 2003 inductee into the Arkansas Construction Hall of Fame. He was a 32nd degree mason. D.B. was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Shirley Vestal Hill. He is survived by his three sons, D.B. Hill III (LaJean), Dr. Howell V. Hill (Kay) and Richard Hill (Carla). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bunker Hill (Amanda), Britt Hill, Jennifer Hill, Christy Smith (Steve) and Sherry Lack; his great-grandchildren, Hunter Hill, Jacob Cypert, Jarod Cypert, Kelsey Lack and Dalton Lack; his sisters, Mary Ann Mott (Charles), Sarah Jane Cooper (Dr. Edward M.); his brother, Charles W. Hill Sr. (Annis); numerous nieces and nephews and his special friend, Jane Swope. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th and Spring Street, Little Rock with interment following at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home.
