FRANK MARION BROWN, 86, of Little Rock died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 after a short illness. He was born Aug. 9, 1926 in Rock Springs, Wyo. and grew up in Kokomo, Ind. He attended Purdue University and served in the US Army in the Philippines during WWII, later in the occupation of Japan. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in battle.

In 1951, returning after the War, he went to work for Merrill Lynch investment firm in Fresno, Calif. and soon transferred to the Merrill Lynch office in Hot Springs, Ark. where he met his wife, Madge. While living in Hot Springs Frank was active in Community Players as lighting director. In 1967 he moved to the Little Rock Merrill Lynch office when the two offices consolidated. He retired from Merrill Lynch in 1989 after a distinguished career of 38 years.

In the 1960s Frank indulged his passion for sports cars and amateur racing, participating in the Sports Car Club of America, (SCCA). He and his son Paul modified Frank's Austin Healy, "Ol' Green," for racing. It was noted what a gentleman Frank was off the track but woe be to the drivers who were between him and the lead of the race. Having won or placed in many races, his reputation led to invitations to the SCCA National Runoffs. It was said that he had one of the fastest Austin Healey's in the country.

Frank will be remembered for his life-long love of fishing, beginning as a boy fishing in the creek near his Kokomo, IN home and becoming an avid fly fisherman. He was instrumental in the establishment of German Brown Trout in the White and Little Red Rivers. He was a charter and lifetime member of Arkansas Fly Fishers. He and his wife Madge spent weeks out of every year taking their trailer to the wilderness for fishing and hiking.

Frank was predeceased by his mother, Maud Anderson; stepfather, John Anderson; father, George Brown and brother, Earl Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Madge; daughter Candy Johnson, her husband Mike, their sons Stuart, Adam (Erin, Seattle, WA) and Drew (Kelley, Berthoud, CO); son Paul, his wife Susan, their son Turnor; son, S. Whittington, his wife Karyn, their daughter Kaleigh, all of Little Rock. He is also survived by his brother Paul Brown, wife Jean of Montrose, Colo. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 12415 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72223, with internment following at the Church's Columnbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 12415 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72223.
