Ms. Mary Elizabeth Jeffers was born August 8, 1943 in Forrest City, Arkansas to M.C. and F.M. Jeffers. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. She was employed as an educator for 40 years. She was selected for the J. William Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program in 1992. She was a member of Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church of Forrest City. Ms. Jeffers served on the city council for 20 years; a member of Semper Fidelis Club and National Association of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc., a life member of the NAACP and Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Mary made her transition on Tuesday evening, December 4, 2012. She will be remembered by her mother, Mrs. F.M. Jeffers; brothers, Mylas (Sue) Jeffers Jr. and Michael Y. Jeffers; sister, Chaney J. Murray; niece Natasha (Mark) Murray-Norman; and nephews, Michael D. and Jeremiah D. Jeffers; a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012, 11 a.m. at Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church 821 W. Scott Street, Forrest City, Ark. 72335.
