John Robert Mallett

JOHN ROBERT MALLETT, age 93, of Jacksonville went to be with his Lord on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. He was born Feb. 17, 1919 in Springfield, Ark. to the late Paul and Nora Mae Herring Mallett. He was a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas and received his master's degree from the University of Arkansas, he later became principal of Bayou Meto Elementary School and assistant principal of Jacksonville High School. He was a United States Air Force World War II veteran and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He spent most of his working career as a civil service investigator. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville for over 60 years where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 65 years, Opal Harpole Mallett; one brother, Nathan Mallett; and one sister, Annalee Williamson. He is survived by his children, Betty M. Wallis and her husband Gary, Robert A. Mallett; one step-grandchild, Gary Wallis II and siblings, Nina Kowerduck, Helen Bostain, Paul Mallett and his wife Shirley. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Interment will follow in Bayou Meto Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
