Jean Richards Gardner, 88, a very sweet and gracious lady departed this life at Circle of Life Hospice on Sunday, December 9, 2012. She was born in Dow, Oklahoma on August 4, 1924 on her mother's 20th birthday to the late John August and Eugenia Durham Richards. She graduated from Ft. Smith High School in 1942 where she was a member of Delta Beta Sigma Sorority and attended the University of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ronald "Pete" Gardner, Jr., her highschool sweetheart. They moved to Springdale in 1945 where they were members of First Presbyterian Church. They loved to travel and visited all fifty states often in their motorhome. They travelled extensively with the Mississippi Seniors Golf Association and Independent Insurance Agents Association both here and abroad including an Around The World Tour in 1980 and golfing trips to Scotland and Ireland. Jean especially loved the shopping and sightseeing. She was a member of Chapter G,P.E.O. Sisterhood for sixty three years and formed many lifelong friendships there and in her bridge clubs which she cherished. She was beautiful in every way and always had a smile for everyone. She will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her. Survivors include her four daughters, Wendy Grobmyer and husband Frank of Little Rock, Sally Gardner of Dallas, Texas, Cindy Lewis and husband Andy of Fayetteville and Julie Rollins of Springdale; grandchildren, Gardner Green and wife Kim of Coppell, Texas and Jessie Grobmyer of Dallas, Texas, Drew Lewis, MD. and wife Tamara, Miles Lewis, Catherine Lee Lewis and Stan Rodgers and wife Laura all of Fayetteville and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Janice Richards Mack and husband Bob Mack, M.D. of Texarkana, Texas. At her request there will be a private graveside service and interment at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale. A visitation for Jean, will take place on Monday, from 4 to 6 pm at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale. The family will not be present.
