Ben Spanel

Ben Spanel, who resided in Gillett, Arkansas, formerly of Charleston, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 in Little Rock hospital. He was born March 16, 1966 in Paris to George Joseph Spanel and Rose Mary (Stehle) Spanel. He was 46 years old. Ben was preceded in death by his father, George Joseph "Pete" Spanel. Ben was a chemical engineer and supervisor for Clearwater Paper Company in McGehee, Arkansas. He was a 1984 graduate of Charleston High School, an avid hunter and fisherman, and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston. Rosary service will be 7 p.m. Friday, December 28th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 29th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston. He is survived by his wife, Lynne' (Keffer) Spanel of the home; one step-daughter, Haley Watkins of Jonesboro; one step-son, Jonathan Watkins and wife Haley of Dewitt; his mother, Rose Mary Spanel of Lavaca; six sisters, Virginia Bradshaw and husband Ed of Shreveport, Louisiana, Mary Ann Ramos and husband Joe of Charleston, Betty Scoggins and husband Randy of Charleston, Dolores Hoyt and husband Martin,Jr. of Lavaca, Teresa Blevins of Lavaca, and Susan Jones and husband Raymond of Greenville, Tennessee; three brothers, Frank Spanel and wife Faye "Sis" of Charleston, William Spanel and wife Ellen of Charleston, and Augustine Spanel and wife Kathy of Atlanta, Texas. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Ryan Scoggins, Joshua Spanel, Joseph Ramos, Scott Bradshaw, Justin Hoyt, Anthony Spanel, and Dylan Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Stitt and Danny Robertson.
