Mrs. Laura Evaline Greer Collier of Jonesboro, formerly of Harrisburg, departed this life Monday night, Dec. 24, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Harrisburg, the daughter of Irving M. and Mary Frances Greer. Laura attended Arkansas State College in Jonesboro and graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1943 with a BSE degree. She taught fourth grade at Harrisburg Elementary School from 1959-1962. Later she was a legal secretary for the family law firm and abstract office. She was very active in various school and community organizations. Laura was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she faithfully served as a choir member, pianist and organist from 1953 to 1993. As a gifted vocalist, pianist and organist, she shared her many talents with the community, by singing and playing for weddings, funerals and other special events. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 63 years, Louie K. Collier, and identical twin sister, Louise Collier. She is survived by her two daughters, Lou Anne (Danny) Clements of Jonesboro and Becky Jean (Larry) Jennings of Harrisburg; her brother, Irving Spence Greer of Hanford, Calif.; grandchildren, Todd Clements, Cindy McDaniel, Matt Clements, Ken Jennings, Kelli DeClerk, Brent Jennings and nine great-grandchildren. Friends may visit with the family Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, from 3-5 p.m. at the Harrisburg First United Methodist Church. Burial will be private at the Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Harrisburg First United Methodist Church, 204 South Main, Harrisburg, Ark. 72432, or the church/charity of your choice.
