Mable Jewel Gentry, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012. She was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Manila, Ark. to the late Frank and Ima Mathney Short. She moved to White County in Dec. of 1947. Mable was a member of West Race Baptist Church; she loved gospel music and leading singing. She is survived by her two sons, Larry Gentry (Faye) and Junior Gentry (Nita) both of Searcy; a daughter, Linda Stevens (Verlon) of Searcy; four grandsons, two granddaughters, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; two brothers, Richard Short of Judsonia and Carl Short of West Point; three sisters, Rena Hoffner and Coradellia Matlock both of Berrin Springs, Michigan and Opal Karns of Niles, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ormond Gentry Sr., her parents, a brother, Franklin Short and one sister, Cora Lee Looney. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Services will be Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2012, 10 a.m., Powell Funeral Home Bald Knob-Judsonia. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery.
