Gail Swisher

Gail Swisher passed from this life on January 1, 2012 at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Arkansas after an amazingly courageous battle with breast cancer for over 14 years. Glenda Gail Cathey was born in Batesville, Arkansas on August 19, 1952, the daughter of George and Charlene Cathey. She graduated from Greenville High School in Mississippi in 1970. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northeast Louisiana University in 1974 and her Masters of Science in Nursing from University of Alabama in 1984. She worked for Arkansas Support Network for persons with disabilities in Northwest Arkansas, from 1997-1999. She was a driving force for people with disabilities serving in many capacities for 15 years with Arkansas Support Network. She volunteered and was active in both her sons Boy Scouting journey, with both achieving Eagle Scout rank. She served as Director of Nursing at Bates Hospital in Bentonville and Dallas County Hospital in Fordyce and worked in acute care at Northwest Health Systems in Bentonville. In 1995, Gail joined NWACC Department of Nursing as an instructor. For 11 years, Gail volunteered as a nurse at Camp Barnabas where son Michael attended each summer. She would bring church youth and nursing students to camp as volunteers. Gail and her family attended St. Stephen Catholic Church in Bentonville. The Swisher family was named the Arkansas Knights of Columbus Family of the year in 2009-2010. Gail is survived by her mother of Rogers; husband of 25 years Brian; sons Daniel and Michael of Bentonville and her brother Nathan Cathey of Washington. She is preceded in death by her father. A funeral will be Friday, January 6, 2012 at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen Catholic Church, Bentonville.
