Ernest William Edington Sr., age 87, of Benton died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. He was born Oct. 5, 1924 in Dumas, Ark. Ernest retired from Alcoa after 30-plus years as a department manager instrumentation/electrician, a WWII Navy veteran, and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sallie Crain Edington; son, Ernest William Edington Jr.; brother, James Edington; sister, Shirley Moyer. Survivors, wife, Frances Virginia Edington, Benton; sons, Randy K. Edington, Buckeye, Ariz.; Robert J. Edington, Mount Ida, Ark.; and Brent Alan Edington, Hillsboro, Ore.; daughter, Alisa Kay Calhoun, Amity, Ark.; grandchildren, Jonathan Edington, Stephanie Hern, Holly Callaway, Kelly Hall, Sallie Bowman, Claire Edington; great-grandchildren, Hannah Hern, Alyssa Hern, and Riley Nash Callaway. Family comments: Ernest was a self-educated, highly intelligent individual who was constantly pursuing further knowledge. He was known for his steady, responsible behaviors but also for his unique humor and fun-loving antics. Ernest was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and a friend and supporter of many and will be missed by all that knew him. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel. Minister will be Rev. Carlton N. Cross. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ashby's.
