Judith Ann Childress, of Stuttgart, Arkansas, a loving wife, mother, and friend left this life on January 6, 2012. Giving, caring, and endlessly in favor of the less fortunate, Judy will be remembered among many things as a person with enormous compassion for others. Stricken with polio as a child she demonstrated great strength and perseverance in a lifelong battle with ailing health. Yet, anyone that had the pleasure of sharing a few minutes with her, or on occasion a few hours, would be the least surprised to know that she was crowned Miss Congeniality in high school. Throughout her life and as evidenced by the outpouring of affection from so many friends and family members since her condition worsened, this title was truly a metaphor for the enduring impression she made on so many people, even those that had brief encounters with her. Born to Claude F. Bone and Joyce M. (McGhie) Bone in Helena, Ark on August 19, 1948, Judy was preceded in death by her husband Richard Childress and is survived by sons, Todd Upton of Maumelle, Kris (Karen) Upton of Little Rock; stepdaughter Christy (Jimmy) Gattis of Conyers, Ga.; grandsons Nicholas and Miles Upton; sister Jan (Phil) Upton of Broken Arrow, OK; sister Donna (Bob) McNeely of Cabot; and close friend and caregiver Loyd Hill of Stuttgart. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Mr. Hill for his friendship and care of Judy, especially in recent months, and Arkansas Hospice - St. Vincent's. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012, at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock. Memorials may be sent to the CARTI Foundation or Arkansas Hospice Foundation, Attn: Little Rock In-Patient, 14 Parkstone Circle, North Little Rock, Ark. 72116.
