Dorothy Jean (Gordon) Rueb

Dorothy Jean (Gordon) Rueb, long-time resident of Algona, Iowa, and Bella Vista, Arkansas, entered into rest on January, 12, 2011, at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa, at the age of 86. She was born August 10, 1925, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Frank Gordon & Cora (Michael) Gordon. Dorothy graduated from Sheldon High School in 1941. After graduation she moved to Omaha to work for Union Pacific Railroad. Dorothy was married to Frank Anthony Rueb on April 23, 1945, in Watertown, South Dakota. After they were married, she worked at Luke Field in Phoenix, Ariz. for the chaplain on base while Frank was stationed there. After being discharged from the Army Air Corps, they returned to Brookings, SD. Dorothy worked for Bell Telephone Company while Frank completed his education. Dorothy and Frank made their home in various communities, settling in Algona, Iowa, in 1953 until retiring in 1985 in Bella Vista, Ark. They recently moved to Atlantic, Iowa to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed bowling and golfing with her family. She also enjoyed cards, being a member of numerous bridge clubs in Algona and Bella Vista. She spent many hours reading, working the daily crossword puzzle and writing poetry. She was proud of being a published poet. Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Wilson (Ralph) of Omaha, Neb.; son, John Rueb (Rose) of Atlantic, Iowa; grandchildren, Lindsey Wilson and Sean Wilson of Omaha, Neb., Amanda Rueb Harrold (Adam) of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Andrew Rueb of Brookings, S.D.; one great-grandchild, Jayden Harrold; one brother, John Gordon of Cupertino, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; one sister, Virginia Smith; and one brother, Rodney Gordon. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. Visitation will be held at the church, one hour prior to the service.
