Katherine May Fort, 96 of Warren, Ark. went home to be with her Lord on Jan. 21, 2012, in the presence of all her family in Bella Vista, Ark. Born Dec. 10, 1915 in Warren, Katherine was the eldest of four daughters. Excelling at both athletics and studies, Katherine was involved in basketball and track while earning the distinction of valedictorian of the Warren High School class of 1933, attended Arkansas A & M College and LaSalle Extension University, Chicago, Ill. After high school, Katherine worked for the WPA and Dr Pepper Bottling Co. However, her most memorable positions were at Warren Bank & Trust, where she was assistant cashier and a 50+ year elected tenure as treasurer for the City of Warren with the following administrations: Mayor Byron Herring, Mayor E. F. Paulus Jr., Mayor W. D. Roddey, Mayor Amos Warren, Mayor John B. Frazer Jr., Mayor R. Gregg Reep and Mayor Byrn Martin. At her retirement, she was the longest-serving city treasurer in the history of the State of Arkansas. She was an active member of the BCMH Women's Auxiliary and a member of First Baptist Church for over 80 years. Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, David B. Fort; her mother and father, Eugene and Zora May; one sister, Betty May, all of Warren, and her son-in-law, Hugh McMillan of Bella Vista, Ark. She is survived by her children, Sharon Fort McMillan of Bella Vista, and Dr. David and Patti Fort of Lowell, Ark.; two sisters, Marcell Taylor and Nell Reep both of Warren; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. There will be a visitation on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Frazer Funeral Home, 305 S. Main St. in Warren. Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24, 10 a.m. at the Frazer Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Wayman Mann followed by a graveside internment at Oakland Cemetery in Warren. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in her honor at Bradley County Veterans' Museum or Bradley County Historical Museum.
