Mona Finley-Kellam

Dr. Mona Finley-Kellam, a long time resident of Fort Worth and Hot Springs Village, Ark., passed away on Dec. 26, 2011 peacefully at her home in California. Mona was born in Wichita Falls, July 9, 1928, residing in Texas for the next 58 years. After graduating from Wichita Falls High School, Mona studied and lived in Puebla, Mexico, establishing her lifetime love of Mexico. Mona returned to Texas and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas at Austin and then received a master's in education. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in 1958 and practiced psychiatry and general medicine for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Fort Worth until her retirement. She was a member of the Texas Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Following her retirement in 1986, Mona and her husband George Duane Kellam moved to Hot Springs Village from Fort Worth, Texas. George passed away in 2009, and at that time Mona moved to California to be closer to her daughter. During her time in Hot Springs Village, Mona was very active in a variety of areas. She was instrumental in the creation of Hot Springs Village's emergency medical technician service. Mona was very active in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a regular attendee and ardent member of the choir. Mona was a member of the Village Pines Garden Club and a Graduate Flower Judge. She was also a charter member of the Designing Women's Study Club of Hot Springs Village. Mona was predeceased by her husbands Marcus Finley, M.D. and George Kellam; and son Stephen Finley. She is survived by her daughter, Robyn Finley-Pope and husband Brad; stepsons, Tom Kellam and wife Shelley, and Kerry Kellam and wife Theresa; five grandchildren, Taylor and Mitchell Pope; Dylan, Deva, Amber, and John Kellam; and three great-grandchildren, Thomas, Emma and Abby. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive S., Fort Worth, Texas. Her family has requested that memorials be in the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
