Louis Sanford Harp

Major Louis S. Harp, USAF (retired), was called for his final flight by the supreme commander of the universe on Jan. 25, 2012. He was born April 24, 1922 in Hot Springs, Ark. to the late David and Mary Harp. He was an Air Force veteran and served in World War II and Korea. He served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II with "H" Battery of the 206th Coast Artillery regiment. He became a pilot in World War II and made the Air Force his career, and was in the first bombing raid on North Korea. After retiring from the Air Force, he made a second career of helping to design and manage new convention centers all across the United States. His first act was always Bob Hope, with whom he maintained a lifelong friendship. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was the youngest Shriner in the United States at age 21. He attended Henderson State Teachers College and was charter president of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Leah of the home; three sons, David K. Harp and wife Sonya Howard of Fort Smith, Ark., Kenneth M. Harp of Royal, Ark. and James M. Harp of McKinney, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Ark.
