BARBARA E. NORTHUP, 61, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012 from a six year battle of cancer. She was born on Dec. 16, 1950 in Lake City to deaf parents, John and Zelma Carter. On May 12, 1979, she married the love of her life, Ernest Northup, and enjoyed 33 years of marriage before her passing. Barbara was an amazing woman who showed the value of family first as a loving wife, gracious mother and fun-filled Nana. As a counselor, teacher, interpreter and leader, she inspired many to pursue their passions in deafness while serving at the Arkansas School for the Deaf, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock IEP and in the Arkansas deaf community. Her book and lasting legacy, "Aura's Journey, God's Faithfulness in the Life of a Young Honduran Deaf Woman" will continue to influence a life of service and faith for all. She is survived by her husband, Ernest; children, Jennifer Northup, Chris and Karen Owens, Aura Rivas, Isaiah and Sarah Beth Woodyard, Katie Northup; grandchildren, Jacob, Carolina and Micah and many close extended family members. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 and the Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Fellowship Bible Church, 1401 Kirk Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72223.
