Bill Fly

Bill Fly of Stuttgart, Ark., went to be with his Savior June 29, 2012. He is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Fly. He is survived by his wife, Kate Fly, his mother, Sophia Fly, four children: Tasha (John) Herman, Alix (Chris) Stephens, Jared (Angela) Segars and Lasha (Tim) Taylor, eight grandchildren, a brother Jerry (Cynthia) Fly and one nephew. Bill attended college at the Univerity of Arkansas at Fayetteville until serving in the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Army Air Medal, Commendation Medal, Achievment Medal and Good Conduct Medal together with three Battle Ribbons for the 1968 TET Offensive. He resumed his education in Fayetteville after his discharge from the Army and earned his degree in Business Administration. He served as a Bank Examiner for the State of Arkansas then returned to DeWitt to his family farm. He continued to farm until his retirement in 2011. Bill has served on numerous committees and boards including the Architectural Board of the State of Arkansas, Engineers and Land Surveyors Board of the State of Arkansas, Arkansas Rural Development Commission, Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission, Blue Ribbon Committee on Critical Groundwater Study for the State of Arkansas, Quorum Court of Arkansas County, alderman for the City of DeWitt, Board of Directors of Arkansas County Farm Bureau, Grand Prairie Regional Water Distribution District and was a member of the American Legion 40-8. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012, at DeWitt Cemetery officiated by Pastor Steve Bushey. Memorials may be made to the American Legion, P.O.
