Hoyle Mann

Hoyle Mann, a resident of Camden, formerly of Sumpter, Ark. passed away July 3, 2012 at the age of 80. Hoyle, a graduate of Hermitage High School in 1949, received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education from Arkansas Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1953. After serving in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he taught at Forrest Heights Middle School before continuing to receive a Masters of Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1959. After receiving his masters, Hoyle went on to work at a variety of educational institutions, moving up to the position of Director of Pines VoTech College in Pine Bluff, where he retired from in 1991. Over his career he received many awards and accolades for his hard work and distinct ability to lead others with strength and kindness. After his retirement, Hoyle took over raising cattle at his family farm in Sumpter. In addition to his career in higher education he also learned the trades of carpenter, architect, and pilot, and could build anything from a house to a car to a plane engine. He has been described by numerous family members as a great mentor, teaching a great deal without having to say much at all. Hoyle is preceded in death by parents, Van and Zelma Mann of Sumpter; sister, Patsy Mann and brother, James Mann, also of Sumpter. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce Pope Mann; daughter, Janet Bailey of Bryant; daughter, Karen Mann Martin and son-in-law, Tom Martin of Minden, La.; grandson, Patrick McNulty (Lesley McNulty) of Bryant; granddaughter, Jennie McNulty Strange (Statler Strange) of Conway, and great-grandsons, Mason and Andrew Chapmond and William McNulty, also of Bryant, among others in a large close-knit extended family. Hoyle was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Camden, as well as the Rose Couples Class. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a hard worker, a man of his word, and someone to be forever regarded with the deepest respect and admiration. Funeral services 10 a.m. Friday July 6, First United Methodist Church in Camden, Ark. Graveside services 4 p.m. Friday July 6, at Outlaw Cemetery at Sumpter, Ark. by Frazer's Funeral Home.
