Marlin R. Genning

Marlin R. Gennings, 84, passed away peacefully July 8th in Little Rock. He was born August 29, 1927 in Newark, Arkansas to the loving family of Hugh and Avy Mae Gennings. He arrived along with his dear twin brother, Marvin and joined sisters, Lois, Audrey, Valerie and Virginia, and older brothers, Ben and R.J at the rural home that became the Christian training place for all of them. They positively affected the lives of thousands during their time with us. Marlin graduated from Ouachita Baptist where he served as President of his class. He went on to the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, preparing him further for his life's work in serving others and placing their interests ahead of his. He became Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro for 30 years and was pastor of the First Christian Church in Trumann for 20 Years. He was a Business Development Officer of Citizens Bank in Jonesboro for 12 years. He was active in those community affairs and denominational activities that served unconditionally to the underprivileged. He is survived by his dear wife, Sue Cato Gennings of Little Rock, who has been steadfast by his side during this most difficult time; a brother, R.J. Gennings of Searcy, is now the sole survivor of his Newark/Batesville family. Marlin and deceased wife Ardelle had three sons, Grady Gennings of Memphis, Paul (Eddie) Gennings, deceased, and John David Gennings of Charlotte, North Carolina; six surviving grandchildren from those sons are all grieving the passing of their "Pop." He is also survived by three step-children, Rock Cato of Blytheville, Elizabeth Cato of Nashville, Tenn. and Byron Cato of Atlanta and their families, including 15 step-grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service will led by Dr. Randy Hyde at 10 a.m. at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church in Little Rock, followed by a second service led by Dr Bruce Tippit at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro on Wednesday, July 11th. Burial will be private at Jonesboro Memorial Park, and will be under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
