Bernice Garrett Hardister

Bernice Garrett Hardister, age 79, died July 11, 2012. She was born August 25, 1932, in Kilmichael, Miss., to Elmer and Levater Malone Garrett. Bernice owned and operated a country store in Reydel in the 1960's, then became a beautician and operated a beauty shop in Reydell. She became postmaster in 1983 and retired with 18 years of service. Bernice was a member of Reydell Baptisit Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hardister, her parents, and a sister, Jean McAlpin. Survivors include: daughter, Linda Hardister Jones; granddaughter, Casey Lee Logsdon; two sisters, Christine Brown and Eloise Thompson; two brother, Garvis and Charles Garrett. Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, at Essex Funeral Home, DeWitt, with visitation from 1 p.m. until the service. Burial will be in Bayou Meto Cemetery.
