Ellen Elizabeth Armstrong Kamp, 91, of Fort Smith, formerly of North Little Rock, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012. Elizabeth was born October 31, 1920 in Lake City, Arkansas to J.Q. and Elsie Gibson Armstrong Sr. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Nash Kamp, three brothers, W.B. Armstrong, J.Q. Armstrong, Jr., Oliver Armstrong, and a sister, Mona Armstrong. She is survived by her son, William Armstrong Kamp and his wife, Elaine of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, Ellen Kamp Smith and her husband Clay of Fort Smith; Emily Kamp Pressley and her husband, Wade of Greenbrier, Arkansas; John Montgomery Kamp of Fort Smith; two loving sisters-in-law, Lonnie Armstrong and Charlene Armstrong of Lake City; two nephews, three nieces and their families. Elizabeth was a grand lady that touched many lives and valued the innumerable friends who knew her as "Liz". She was "Sister" to her siblings, "Meme" to her grandchildren, "Auntie" to her nieces and nephews and "Tic-Toc" to their kids! Elizabeth was valedictorian of her Lake City High School class of 1939. She graduated from Arkansas State College in Jonesboro with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1942 and was a member of Alpha Tau Zeta Sorority. She and John married in 1951 in Dallas, made their first home in El Paso, Texas at Fort Bliss, lived briefly in Hot Springs before settling in 1962 in North Little Rock. The Candlewick Lane neighborhood is a very special, close knit group to this day. She was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, active in Mother's Day Out and the George Martin Sunday School Class. She loved her Bridge Club, Book Club and Circle groups as well. The family will receive visitors in Fort Smith Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home; and at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 1922 Topf Road, North Little Rock, Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Graveside service and burial will be 11 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2012 at Bowman Cemetery, Bowman, Craighead County, Arkansas officiated by Darren Owens of Lake City. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers are John Kamp, Clay Smith, Wade Pressley, Mat Short, Wilkes Short, Jake Armstrong and Nicolas Beine. Honorary Pallbearers are her nephews J.Q. Armstrong, III and Bob Armstrong.
