E. Leslie Dixon

E. Leslie Dixon, 92, of Benton passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice House in Bryant. He was born on July 4, 1920 in Mulberry, KS to the late George and Alma Dooley Dixon. Mr. Dixon obtained a Masters degree and was a school teacher and coach in Kansas. He finished his career in the engineering division for the Kansas State Highway Dept. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp WWII veteran and a 50 year Mason belonging to the Benton Lodge in the Scottish Rite in Fort Scott, Kansas. He attended Spring Creek Baptist Church in Benton. He was very athletic throughout his life, an All-State football player in high school and a collegiate track star. Mr. Dixon was a world ranked horseshoe pitcher never having played until he was 72 years old. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Casey Lee Parker, and five brothers, Arthur, Amon, Freeman, Lloyd, and Richard Dixon. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Loene Harlan Dixon of Benton; two sons, Larry Dixon and wife Willa of Interlachen, Fla. and David Dixon and wife Kathy of Brandon, Miss.; one daughter, Diane Brock and husband Horace of Bryant, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Dale Dixon, Kim Carden, Stacie Hengy, Angela Thompson, Russell Parker, Michael Parker, Sarah Goodwin, and Jonathan Dixon; 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (501-315-4047) with Rev. Terry Parrish officiating. Entombment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and Keith Bagley, Roland King, and Gene Bagwell. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday evening, July 19th at the funeral home.
