Jimmy N. Scates

Jimmy "Scooter" N. Scates, 75, of Austin, passed away on July 17th, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 6th, 1937 in Lexington, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce McCollum Scates and James W. Scates. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Jones Scates, two daughters; Joy L. Scates and Patsy E. (James) Ray of Redfield and one grandson, Andrew R. Wilson. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot, Ark.; #1 Hunting Club of Sheridan, Ark. for 25 years, a 32nd degree Mason and the Scottish Rite. Jim was employed by Arkansas Best Freight (ABF) Systems for 40 years; the first 2 years he worked in the city of Memphis and was also a member of Teamster Local 667 and worked 38 years with ABF as a road driver in Little Rock Teamsters Local 878. He served as the Recording Secretary at Local 878 for 20 years. Jimmy considered himself a Teamster first and worked for the company. Family will be available at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home on Saturday, July 21st, from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. to greet friends in the Community Room. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested for donations to be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital or The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (MS) at: P.O. Box 816148 Dallas, Texas 75381-6148.
