ROBERT "BOB" MCCABE JR., age 64, of Little Rock passed away Sunday, July 15. Bob was born Oct. 27, 1947 in Oahu, Hawaii to Col. Robert and Geraldine McCabe. He spent his childhood following his father's career and attended 12 schools before graduating from high school in Seattle, Wash. While attending the University of Oregon in 1967, Bob made the decision to join the United States Marine Corp. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam and was severely injured in combat in 1968 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He continued to live in Asia and began an import-export business. In 1979 Bob returned to the United States and worked for the federal government until May, 1989. He then began work as a restaurateur and ultimately found his way to Arkansas. Despite his colorful career, he always maintained that his last job was his best: in 1993, he went to work for the Sears' family at the Conway Supper Club. Bob finally retired in 2005 and moved to Todos Santos in Baja Sur, Mexico. Though there was nothing "southern" about him, he loved central Arkansas and returned to Little Rock in 2010. Bob is survived by his wife and best friend, Kelly Lasley McCabe; two nieces, Jesse and Haley; one nephew, Sam; two great-nieces; two sisters, Maragaret and Patricia; his extended families, the Sears, Anderson, Readnour, Naubert families, and his loyal Jack Russells, Pagz, Buster, and Pearly Mae. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 26, 1 p.m. at the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. In lieu of flowers Kelly asked that donations be made to the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, 1401 West Markham, Suite 304, Little Rock, Ark., 72201.
