Mrs. Mary Louise (Lowe) Nelson, 90, of Moorefield, Arkansas departed this world on Monday, June 11, 2012. She was born December 31, 1921 at Moorefield, Arkansas the daughter of Julius David and Elizabeth (Goodwin) Lowe. Mrs. Nelson graduated from Newark High School in 1939, attended business school in Batesville, and in 1942 she went to Washington, D.C where she was employed by the War Department as secretary in the office of the Adjunct General. While in Washington, she met her future husband, Sgt. Willard "Bill" Nelson, who was in the Marine Corps and stationed at Quantico, Va. They were married at Newark in 1946 after Bill had returned from three years of duty in South Pacific. They lived in Virginia, North Carolina, California and Florida before Bill's retirement in 1962. They returned to Newark to make their home. Mary then went to work as Bookkeeper for Van-Atkins Stores where she spent thirty years before retirement. She was a member of the Hazel Edwards United Methodist Church in Newark, where she served twenty years as financial secretary and a member of the Emma B. Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary enjoyed scrap booking, cooking and spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Willard "Bill" Nelson; her parents, David and Elizabeth Lowe and one brother, Victor Lowe. Mary is survived by two daughters, Susan Sullivan and husband Danny of Little Rock, Arkansas and Joyce Kurtz and husband Knute of Newport Coast, California; one son, David Nelson and wife Julia of Little Rock, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Scott Clark of Batesville, Arkansas, Sarah Hanks and husband Brandon of Little Rock, Arkansas, Lindsay Stidhl and husband Phillip of Little Rock, Arkansas, Michael Nelson of Little Rock, Arkansas and Taylor Kurtz of Newport Coast, California; her unborn great-grandson and her cousin and dear friend, Carolyn Lynch of Newark, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday at the Hazel Edwards United Methodist Church in Newark with Rev. Robert Ernest officiating. Interment will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Randy Hendrix, Chuck Norris, Larry Magness, Jim McDonald, Phillip Morrison and Robert Marshall. Honorary Pallbearer will be Dr. Homer Lee Brooks III. The Nelson Family would like to give a special thanks for the care given by Dr. Homer Lee Brooks III and his staff, the staff at White River Medical Center and the staff at Eagle Mountain Assisted Living.
