On June 15th, 2012, John Andrew Hallard left this planet for perfect putting greens and favorite fishing holes. Born August 4th, 1929 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, he left us with many great memories and lots of love. Predeceased by John Devlin Hallard and Bessie Booker Hallard, his parents and his sisters, Nona Marie and Bess Jean, John grew up enjoying nature, music and sports. He graduated from the University of Arkansas and was an active member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After serving his time in the U.S. Army, John decided to drive his 1957 Corvette to Houston. There he happened to meet Pauline Tompkins, who fondly called him "The Super Chief." They were married 3 months later on Valentines Day 1958. The 1960s brought their three children, Andrew Devlin (Rhonda); John Christopher and Lynn Blakely. John joined the Postal Service where he was known for his superior service and crazy looking socks. His life was full - angling for fish, rooting for the Razorbacks and Houston Oilers, panning for quartz crystals and diamonds in Arkansas, and inventing the perfect long-handled golf putter. John's love of golf was sparked by a hole-in-one at Memorial Park Golf Course before his first son was born. John took his family to Fulton Beach every summer to boat, swim and fish. Afterwards, he enjoyed having a gang of friends and neighbors over for a fish fry. With his buddy (David Nitsch) and the children, John's fish fry ritual became famous. John leaves his wife of 54 years, their three children along with his six grandchildren: Emily, Andrea, Michelle, Drew, Danielle and Jordan, all who affectionately called him "Pappy."John donated his body to the University of Texas Medical School research in order to help others battle illness. A life celebration memorial will be held for friends and family on Sunday, 24th June at noon. Please contact the family directly for information. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Alzheimer Research Foundation. Wooooo. Pig. Sooie!
