Mrs. Valeta Marie Johnson Young of Sheridan, Ark., age 82, died June 22, 2012 at home of complications from acute Myathemia-Garvis. Those preceding her in death were her parents, Paul H. Johnson and Mary Lessie Ault Johnson, and her oldest sister, Lola Newson Wortman. They were the two oldest of Mr. And Mrs. Johnson's six daughters. Others that survive are four sisters, Bonnie Jean (Derek) Blackford, Martha (Chuck) Sneed, Mary Lee (Les) DeBono, and Reba Nell Cargile. Also, her husband with whom she would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on June 30, Frank Lee Young; her daughter, Mary Ellen Young Ewing; her granddaughter, Jamie Ewing of North Little Rock; and her grandson, Paul Talmadge Ewing and his wife, Mary E. Regenald Ewing of Benton. Great grandchildren, the pride and joy of her life, a good bragging topic and their accomplishments were Emma Grace, James Elliot Thomas, Mary Margaret Jeanne and Charlotte Elizabeth Rose. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was employed for many years as a medical receptionist for three local doctors. She made many friends at work for the public and in her church. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. In the records, there are listed seven generations of her family, beginning along about the establishment of the church. She loved her Lord, her church and worked and served in the church in many activities including Church Clerk for 17 years, Sunday School and Bible School teachers, youth leader and Ladies Auxiliary. Her church and work were her main interest in life. After their retirement, Valeta and Frank Lee traveled in their RV, visiting all four borders of the US, many of the famous sites and lots of relatives. This was a great adventure for them. Valeta was proud of her family as they were early settlers and political beginners (beginning with T.A. Morris, First Judge of Grant County) and her great grandfather Miles Wilson who was a surviving Civil War Veteran. They established a homestead on Grant 8 and in this house is where Valeta was born. Most of the families were farmers, including Valeta's father. The funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Hill, Bro. Robert Hurst and Bro. Joe McElroy officiating. Burial will follow at Ain Cemetery in Grapevine. Pallbearers are Ross Barnes, Greg Cargile, Kyle Cargile, Perry Williams, Edwin Newsom and Eric Petty. Honorary pallbearers are all the members of Shiloh Young Married Sunday School Class. Arrangements by Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan (870)942-1306.
