Simon Joseph

Simon Joseph, 94, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, March 2. Born Sept. 15, 1917 in Blytheville, Ark., a son of the late Samuel and Olga Sternberg Joseph, he was reared and educated in Blytheville, graduated from Blytheville High School, and attended Texas A&M University. Simon served in the US Army in WWII. He then began a long, distinguished career in the insurance business. First an insurance adjuster in Little Rock, he moved to Pine Bluff and joined McNew Insurance. After many years, he retired as a partner in the McNew agency. He was a past president of Insurors of Arkansas. He was a member of Temple Anshe Emeth. Active in his community, he was past president of his Temple, the Pine Bluff Rotary Club, and Rosswood Country Club. He was a former Board member of the Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce, Savers Federal Savings and Loan, National Credit Corporation, the Pine Bluff YMCA and Junior Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include Barbara Pfeffer Joseph, his wife of 56 years; son, Mike (Gina) Joseph of Adkins, Texas; daughter Cathy (Bill) Strauss of Lebanon, Tenn.; three grandsons and one great-grandson. They are grateful to his special caregiver, Lois Smith. Charles Joseph, his brother, also preceded him in death. Services are Tuesday, March 6, 10:30 a.m. at Ralph Robinson & Son.
