Calvin Monroe Hobby, 86, of Benton, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 2, 2012. He was born May 22, 1925 in Scott, Ark. to the late Gilbert and Bessie Waters Hobby. He grew up in Sardis and was known as "Monroe" to many growing up. He served his country in the Navy as a Seabee during WWII. He was retired from Alcoa where he was a pipe fitter. He also was a Farmers Insurance agent for over 30 years in Benton. He was an active member of Parkview United Methodist Church, where he served for many years. He was preceded in death by his brother James C. (J. C. ) Hobby and sister, Lonie Pettus. Survivors, his wife of 58 years, Martha Riggan Hobby, Benton; sons, Lyle Hobby and wife Jean of Dallas, Texas; Phil Hobby of Benton; grandchildren, Brooke Hobby Johnson and husband Aaron, of Rogers, Ark.; Charis Hobby, of Benton; Shawn Hobby, Ryan Hobby and Blake Hobby, of Dallas Texas; brother, Richard Hobby and wife Faye, of Toledo, Ohio; sisters, Florene Standrige, of Little Rock; Ethel Maddox and husband Carl, of Tyrone, Ga.; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and close friends. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday March 5, 2012 at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel. Church services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parkview United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Natasha Murray Norman and Rev. John O. Alston.
