Corneshea Irene Halton

CORNESHEA IRENE-NATICOLE HALTON, 28, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 1, 2012. Corneshea, a teacher at Fuller Middle School loved learning and often said, if it was not for the need of health care she would be a full time student forever. Corneshea attended Crystal Hill Elementary where her love of learning blossomed. She was placed in the gifted and talented program after her teachers realized her inept abilities. She graduated with honors from Parkview Magnet School, May 2001, where she served as Senior Class President. Corneshea was an exemplary student and served on several committees. Her greatest pleasure came with working in the drama department. Corneshea graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn. in May 2005. She returned to Little Rock and began to work for the Pulaski County Special School District as a Seventh Grade Gifted and Talent Teacher at Fuller Middle School. She loved her students. She would want them to strive for excellence. Corneshea would want you (her students) to be lifelong learners. She was most proud when her students came back and shared with her how much they learned from her while they were in her class. She was grateful for the support and relationship that she developed with her co-workers as well. Corneshea served as the English Department Chairperson. She also served on the PCSSD curriculum committee. She had a very special passion for the English and Language Arts curriculum. One of her proudest accomplishments was the implementation of the "Open Mic" symposium. Students would read a book and write poetry from a particular character's point of view. Students would then perform in an Open Mic setting. News of Open Mic spread around the district and co-workers and other district personnel came to Fuller to participate in the culminating experience. She was the sponsor for the Spirit Team and Student Council. She organized the Annual Awards Assembly. This event was one of the highlights of the year. Corneshea also oversaw Fuller's Finest and the Black History assemblies. Corneshea was selected to attend the Arkansas Leadership Academy and became a Master Teacher. She received the Pulaski County Special School District Bobby Lester Award and the Pulaski Heights Lions Club Teachers Recognition Award for excellence in teaching for the 2009-2010 school year. She also received the Booker T. Washington Profile in Excellence Award, which is the Pulaski County Special School District's most prestigious recognition of teacher excellence, in April 2011. Corneshea received a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in May 2009, and a Masters in Gifted Education, Dec. 2011, also from UALR. She had plans to obtain a Doctoral Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. One of Corneshea ‘s dreams was to be a Delta. April 2009, she joined the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. She was an active member and enjoyed the sisterhood with her whole heart. Corneshea accepted the Lord as her personal savior at the age of 14. She attended church faithfully at Longley Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dwight Townsend. There, she served on various committees. For two years she helped to spearhead the Feed the Children Drive, organizing the school supplies. On Wednesday nights she would take her school work to church. While eating, she would grade papers waiting for Bible study to start. Even when sick, Corneshea attended church. Many times she was released from the hospital to go home and rest, but Sunday morning she insisted on going to church. Corneshea leaves to celebrate her memory, her mother Shirley Lewis and Trena Coleman (Brian), her father Bernard Halton.
