Hazel Marie Bailey

Hazel Childress Bailey, 94, loving mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Crittenden Regional Hospital in West Memphis, Ark. She was born to John and Tennie Slape Childress on November 1, 1917, in Okemah, Okla. Hazel was a member of Double Wells Assembly of God Church in Pine Bluff. Before moving to Pine Bluff, she was a member and Sunday school teacher at the First Assembly of God Church in Star City for over 30 years. For the last ten years, she made her home in West Memphis, Ark. and was a member of the Angels Sunday school class at the First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 53, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5225, and the Broadway Healthcare Red Hat Society. Preceding her in death are her parents; her loving husband, Daniel Aster Bailey; two brothers, John and Robert Childress; sister, Erma Huffman; grandson, Jimmy Daniel Bailey, two daughters-in-law, Deanna and Bonnie Bailey; and son-in-law, William Shults. Survivors include her sister Zada Howser; five sons, Thomas Bailey of Little Rock, Bob Bailey (Louise) of Star City, Don Bailey (Joyce) of Greenwood, La., Johnny Bailey of Greers Ferry, Gary Bailey (Deborah) of Hot Springs; two daughters, Margaret Shults of Pine Bluff, and Alice Courtney (Harry) of West Memphis; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Hazel had a special place in her heart for her granddaughter Shannon who helped care for her. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the First Assembly of God followed by funeral services with Rev. Paul Pickens and Rev. Greg Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Funeral Services. An online guest registry will be available at www.griffinfuneralservice.net.
