Theodore "Ted" Burrell Dobbs

Theodore "Ted" Burrell Dobbs, 82, was born in Sweet Home, Arkansas on April 22, 1929 and died February 24, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he has lived in retirement for several years. Burrell graduated from Little Rock Junior College (now UALR) in 1948, attended Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) in 1949 and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1950. He served honorably in the United States Marines during the invasion of Korea, including digging his fox-hole and coming under fire during the Inchon landing. He subsequently served on the Presidential Honor Guard, and after completion of his military service he joined the State Department Foreign Service and started his career there as a Diplomatic Courier. After serving that Department  in many locations, both overseas and here, he retired with the rank of Consul General of the United States. He was a great American. Burrell was a long-time, loyal member of the Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his first wife Frances, his parents Warren William Dobbs and Selma Hoekstra Dobbs, and an older brother William (Bill) Warren Dobbs Jr. He is survived by his present wife Agnes, and two daughters, Jan Malnar and husband Ferenc of McLean, Virginia and Kathy Erskin and husband Bill of Charlottsville, Virginia, and two grandchildren, Fiona and Gavin, also of Charlottsville, one brother Olin L. Dobbs and wife Coleen of Austin, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at the Desert Memorial Funeral Home in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 12, 2012 at 3 p.m.
