Sylvia G. McCray, age 95, of Benton, passed away Monday evening, March 12, 2012. She was born on July 16, 1916 to Russell A. and Laura Rich Garlington in Bryant, Arkansas. Mrs. McCray was preceded in death by her husband, Ben M. McCray; her parents; her brother, M.F. "Tom" Garlington; her sister, Era Lynch and a nephew, Michael J. Garlington. Survivors include her son, Robert E. McCray (Colleen) of Dana Point, California; her daughter, Donna M. McCormick (Bill) of Benton; two grandsons, Trent McCormick (Jamie) of Cocoa, Florida and Kurtis McCormick (Christi) of Benton; three great-grandchildren, Cpl. Will McCormick of Camp LeJune, North Carolina, Holly McCormick of Cocoa, Florida and K.K. McCormick of Benton and two nephews, Russell Lynch (Ann) of Little Rock and Jim Lynch (Mary) of Benton. During her long years, Sylvia was involved in a variety of activities. At First United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Nan Hughes Bible Class, the Recycled Voices Senior Adult Choir and in earlier years was a member of W.S.C.S. and sponsor of the youth. She loved to travel and did so frequently following Ben's death. They had enjoyed golfing together and she continued playing until she was 89 years old, winning many tournaments and developing friendships along the way. Sylvia loved her life, her family and her friends. She was a member of Sesame Study Club, the Fortnightly Club, Ladies Golf Associations, P.E.O. and several bridge clubs. Visitation/reception will be 12 to 1 p.m., Friday, March 16 at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, March 16 at the First United Methodist Church with burial at Pine Crest Memorial Park. Rev. Victor Green and Rev. Don Nolley will be officiating. Her family would like to express our gratitude for the tender, loving spirit and care given by her caregivers for the past three years which enabled her to remain in her home.
