Bobby Hill

Bobby Hill, 75, of Batesville died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his residence. He was born November 5, 1936 in Cushman and was the son of Fredrick Newton Hill and Walcie Ann (Cowden) Hill. He was a 1954 graduate of Cushman High School where he was also president of the senior class. He served in the US Army Reserve. He was a building contractor in and around the Independence County area for over 30 years. Bobby's true passion was sports. He was a high school and college basketball referee and baseball umpire for 40 years. He officiated over 4000 basketball games and hundreds of baseball games. In 1997 he was inducted into the Arkansas Officials Association Hall of Fame. In 2010 he was inducted into the Batesville Area Hall of Fame. For 23 years he was a District 2 Commissioner for the Arkansas Officials Association and also a three time president of the AOA. He was a member of the Desha Church of Christ. Bobby is survived by his wife, Birdie Blue Hill, of Batesville; two sons, Greg Hill and wife, Lisa of Conway, Britt Hill and wife, Gina, of Fayetteville; stepson, Mike Blue and wife, Shawn, of Batesville; stepdaughters, Michelle Varela of Batesville and Missy Rosson and husband, Kevin, of Dublin, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, Morgan, Abby, Matthew, Chloe, Luke, Jacob, Madison, Stephanie, Bradley, Jordan and Bryan; two great-grandchildren, Dawson and Quentin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; and one sister. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Roller-Crouch Chapel with Craig Wilson and Bill Willard officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Cushman by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. Pallbearers will be Chris Hill, Donald Hill, Billy Wayne Hill, Joey Hill, Dicky Hamilton, Jerry Hamilton, and David Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Hill, Charles Webb, John Nail, Dr. Robert Walton, and Billy Cullum. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the funeral home.
