John Robert Hayes, Sr.

John Robert Hayes Sr., 82, of Plumerville was called to rest on October 26, 2012. He was born on August 26, 1930 in Plumerville, the son of the late Clayborn Hayes (aka Jab Hayes) and Effie Brown-Hayes. He was retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad, and Arkansas Kraft Paper Mill of Morrilton. He served as Superintendent of Sunday School, a Deacon for 34 years, and was Chairman of the Deacon Board at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Plumerville until his passing. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jewel Sandidge. From that marriage, eight children were born. John Hayes married his second wife, Isabelle Sandidge (Patsy), now deceased. Prior to this union, Isabelle had one daughter. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Roosevelt Arnold and a sister, Bernice White. He is survived by eight children: Carolyn Harrison, Lanham, Md.; Betty Carpenter, Upper Malboro, Md.; Ruby Hayes, Burbank, Calif.; John R. Hayes Jr., Tulsa, Okla., Ida Hayes, Silver Spring, Md.; Bill Hayes, Conway, Ark.; Doyle Hayes, Jacksonville, Ark.; Gary Hayes, Little Rock, Ark.; a step-daughter, Michelle Sandidge, Conway, Ark., 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one sister, Ida Mae Hayden, Chicago, Ill., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Plumerville with Pastor Byron Jackson officiating. The body will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church the day of the funeral. Burial will be at Owens Cemetery in Plumerville by Wilson & Jarrett Funeral Home of Morrilton, 106 E. Elm St. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the local American Cancer Society, 901 N.
