Eloise was born Jan. 17, 194,1 in Black Fork, Ark. to Charlie and Lillian Campbell Davis, who preceded her in death and a sister Charlene Davis Harris. She was a 1959 graduate of Acorn High School and a 1962 graduate of Henderson State University. She received her Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from Henderson in 1967. Eloise began her teaching career in Altheimer where she did her student teaching and remained for two additional years. While at Altheimer, she enrolled in a summer class at the University of Arkansas Medical Center entitled, "Teaching Brain Injured Children." Also, enrolling in this class was another educator, John Stobaugh of Choctaw. Eloise and John were married on Aug. 1, 1964, by Brother Dillard Miller in the First Baptist Church of Mena. Following teaching stints at Southside and Paron, Eloise and John obtained teaching positions and moved to Mena in 1967. John taught only a few years in Mena before serious health problems led to his retirement and eventual death on Christmas Eve in 1984. Eloise's teaching career spanned 37 years, the last 32 of those with the Mena Public School System. She taught fifth grade during most of those years. A dedicated professional, she loved and was loved by the students, faculty, staff, and administration with whom she worked. Eloise was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Polk County Retired Teachers Association, and Daughters of the American Revolution. The heart of Eloise was the Lord, her family and an unending number of dear friends. In light of her enduring legacy, we will always remember that, "the sunset is the backside of tomorrow's sunrise." Her sunset here is a Heavenly Sunrise!
