James Jackson Smith, 40, of Conway, departed this earthly life on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012. James was born Aug. 7, 1972 to Travis Smith and Helen (Cook) Smith at Monticello, Ark.
James was the third of four children, graduated from Drew Central High School in Monticello, Ark. in 1991 and joined the US Navy upon graduation, where he had 8 years of military service, earning the National Defense Service Medal.
After his military service he worked as a Macintosh Computer Technician, most recently at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, where he worked for 10 years. He married his wife, Suzy, on Dec. 18, 2007. He is remembered fondly for his love of cats, tropical plants, and music.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Sawyer Smith of Conway; his step-children, Melissa and William Kimball; his parents, Travis and Helen Smith of Monticello; his sisters, Susan Johnson, Tracasa Cooper, and Deanna Isacson; his beloved cats, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be at 12, noon, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. 72116 (501-791-7400). Interment will follow at Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
