MARTHA LILLIAN (SMITH) HARDIN, 74, of Little Rock passed away Nov. 9, 2012. She was born Oct. 11, 1938 in Benton, Ark. As with nearly everything handed to Martha, it was with poise and grace that she walked the long, rocky road of life with Alzheimer's. She had a host of friends, family and neighbors that shared and enjoyed her sweet nature, kindness, and wit to the very end.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Richard Carlton Hardin (Mayflower, Ark.); her parents, Harriette Elizabeth Malone Smith (Benton, Ark.), J. Dean Smith (Memphis,Tenn.) and a brother, G. Ross Smith (Little Rock). She is survived by three daughters, Leah Michele Ludwig, Elizabeth Nicole Miller, and Heather Lynn Hardin; three grandchildren, Kole Ludwig, Carly Miller and Lillian Williams; two nephews, Greg and Stuart Smith (Houston, Texas) and her sister-in-law, Adarose Carter (Houston, Texas).

Martha was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Provincia de la Sal Chapter of Benton. She graduated from Central High School in 1956. She received her Associates degree from Arkansas State Teachers College and was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She served on the North Little Rock's City Beautiful Commission and was a patient representative volunteer at the North Little Rock Baptist Memorial Hospital. She also served as a volunteer in the office at Lakewood United Methodist Church. Martha and Carlton were charter members at Western Hills Country Club where they enjoyed playing golf together until his death in 1997. Later in life she reunited with a childhood friend, Richard Adair, who was very special to her.

The family extends special gratitude to neighbors, family, friends, Arkansas Hospice and Chenal Heights for their love and exceptional service. After a private burial, a memorial service and reception will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on West Markham in Little Rock, Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Dr. Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
