Donald Gene Bratton

Donald Gene Bratton, of Edgemont, Arkansas, was born on October 26, 1946 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was the son of the late Carroll Bratton and Claudine Plunkett Bratton. He died at the Heber Springs Baptist Hospital in Heber Springs, Arkansas on November 10, 2012 at the age of 66 years.
Mr. Bratton was a graduate of the Univ. of Arkansas in Fayetteville and was a registered professional Civil engineer at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Little Rock. While there, he was the Chief of Navigation and Maintenance for the Arkansas River Lock and Dam System. He was honored five times for the Commander's Award for Civilian Service from the Department of the U.S. Army. Following 35 years of service with the Corps of Engineers, he became a consultant for Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel Company.
He was a long time member of the Grande Maumelle Sailing Club and the Greers Ferry Optimist club. He loved tutoring students and volunteered weekly at Westside Elementary School in Greers Ferry. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Greers Ferry. He loved the water and spent a lot of time with his family on the lakes and rivers of Arkansas.
Mr. Bratton was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family and others before himself. Known as "Pawpaw" to his ten grandchildren, Mr. Bratton's greatest joy and commitment was to his family. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Bratton; four daughters Karen Boskus and husband Roger of Elkins; Emily Bratton of Rogers; Ellen Layland and husband Brian of North Little Rock; Shelly Bennett and husband Kary of North Little Rock. ‘Pawpaw' is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four sisters; Nancy Jones and husband Ross, Joan Pierce and husband Bobby, Cathy Leflar, and Jan Jewell and husband Joe.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs with Dr. Walter Swetnam and David Clark officiating with burial following at Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills in North Little Rock, Ark. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs, Ark. Pallbearers will be Roger Boskus, Brian Layland, Dr. Cade Martin, Chad Wood, Jason Wood, Justin Leflar, David Leflar, Matt Jewell, and Ryan Jewell.
