Norman Douglas Murphy

Norman Douglas Murphy, 76 of Monticello passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at his home. He was born October 7, 1936 in Drew County to the late Allen and Verlee Smith Murphy. He retired as an International Representative for United Paper Workers International Union after 30 years of service, was of the Baptist faith and loved to hunt and fish. He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Bill, Malvin and Barton Murphy and two sisters, Eunice Judkins and Alma Slocum-Enderby. Survivors include his wife, Bettye Ivy Murphy of Monticello; two sons, Norman Douglas Murphy, II and his wife Judy of Sherwood and Milton Murphy of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; one daughter Gwen Fletcher of Pine Bluff; one brother, Calvin Murphy and wife Margie of Pine Bluff; one sister, Clara Waller and husband Ed of Mountain View, AR and several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Ridge Cemetery by Jimmy Hill. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home.
