James Young Herrin, 75, of Searcy, Arkansas, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at his home. Born May 2, 1937 at the Herrin home place in West Point, Arkansas, he was the son of Thomas James and Agnes Reid Herrin. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Searcy. He was employed with BFI and Allied Waste for 47 years in Little Rock. He enjoyed farming activities, hunting with his son, son-in-law, and grandson. He had a green thumb for rose gardening. He was the definition of a real man; he was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Peggy Davis Herrin of Searcy; one daughter, Lenee Herrin Brown and husband David of Mablevale, Arkansas; one son, James Gregory and fiancée Connie Crawford; three grandchildren, Camille Brown Stout and husband Rob of Beebe, Nicholas Brown of Mablevale, and Hope Herrin of Searcy; one great-granddaughter, Emmie Bella Stout; one brother, Dave Herrin (Phyllis) of Searcy; two sisters, Helen Greenfield (Charley) of North Little Rock; and Ida Herrin of Gravel Ridge; and a sister-in-law, Susan Herrin of Searcy. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Nanny Joe Herrin, Mary Jane Esch, and a brother, Joe Herrin. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 17th at Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. Interment will follow at Gum Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 16th at the funeral home. Pallbearers include Nicholas Brown, Rob Stout, Davis Mills, Caleb Crawford, Steve Gentry, and Carl Shafer. Honorary Pallbearers are Tom Gentry and Jimmy Swindle.
