BARBARA PHILETUS LANGHAMMER BUTCHER, 89, of Little Rock, died Nov. 15, 2012, at Briarwood Nursing Center in Little Rock. She was born Sept. 14, 1923, to Rudolph and Josephine Langhammer. She was the widow of William Nathaniel Butcher, love of her life for 61 years. Barbara was a very talented lady and involved in several charities over the years. One was the Arkansas Heart Association. In the early 1940s, she was employed at the Arkansas Democrat as a member of the sales team. Her father was a pressman at the same paper. Music was an important part of her life. Barbara played the piano, organ and sang in two community choirs, but the organ was her first love. If you had to pick things that meant most to Barbara, it was her love and caring of her family and tracing family roots. One side of her family fought in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Her brothers fought in WWII and her husband was a pilot for the United States Air Force in the Korean War. She could keep the younger nieces and nephews entertained with the "tales of the family." Barbara was a dedicated wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law and aunt. She took care of her parents in their later years as well as her brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and brothers, Beatrice Bass, Bessie Langhammer, Rudolph Langhammer, Earnest Langhammer, Joseph Langhammer, Charles Langhammer, Woodrow Langhammer and Margaret Brewer. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation for the love and excellent care provided by the entire staff at Briarwood Nursing Center. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at Pinecrest Memorial Park, 7401 Hwy 5 North, Alexander, Ark. Arrangement by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway Little Rock, Ark. 72211 (501) 224-8300. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House or a local humane society.
