Martha Olga Whiteley Ramsey, 93, of Hot Springs, Ark., died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012. She was daughter of Baptist Minister Feilding Whiteley and Cora Whiteley. Martha is survived by her loving husband Walter Houston "Jiggs" Ramsey Sr. She passed peacefully taking with her the love of her son, Walter Houston "Jiggs" Ramsey Jr.; her daughter, Rebecca Ramsey Bane and her eight grandchildren, Clint Burns, Jason Burns, Amy Lovelace, Howard Bane Jr., Shannon Bane Jr., Lisa Marie Schaffer, Luke Ramsey and Laura Stokes. Martha was an accomplished musician. She played several instruments, but we all loved hearing her play piano. People standing around her piano singing while she played always made her smile, whether it be at church or at home for Christmas. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing, tennis, horseback riding and traveling together. She was a great entertainer and made any excuse to dress up and look glamorous. Martha taught elementary school for 30 years and enjoyed making a difference in her student's lives. Her stories of teaching school would keep her family laughing for years. Bridge was her card game of choice, and no one loved to win at Bridge more than Martha. We will miss all these things and many more about her. Martha's commitment to Christ has given her family peace today. Her love for God and her church has been a great influence on any life she touched. She will remain in our hearts forever. We are all better people for knowing Martha Ramsey. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Friendship Cemetery in Shaw, Ark. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Friendship Cemetery Association at 7112 Croxton Road Benton, Ark. 72105. A reception will be held at Jiggs and Candy Ramsey's Residence. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com.
