Thomas Carroll Coleman

Thomas Carroll Coleman Sr. was born July 21, 1918 in Lonoke County, Ark., the son of Julius Cross Coleman and wife, Eva Carroll Coleman, and died Nov. 23, 2012 in Naples, Fla. He was resident of Naples, Fla. for the past 12 years where he was active in the North Naples United Methodist Church. Mr. Coleman served in the US Army in World War II. He was a salesman in Memphis and later in the Arkansas River Valley from 1947 until 1964 for William R Moore Dry Goods Co. and he lived in North Little Rock, Ark. He was promoted to sales manager and executive vice president and moved to Memphis. He was also president of Harris, Davis & Reeves in Nashville, Tenn. and Fitts & Co in Kansas City, Mo. He served as president of the National Association of Textile and Apparel Wholesalers in 1977. He later served as President of National Stores in Nashville, Tenn. from 1981 until 1986. Mr. Coleman loved reading, bridge, golf, travel, and trout fishing with family. He was active in churches throughout his life as well as charitable organizations including Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He was Chairman of the Board for First Methodist Church of North Little Rock in the early 1960s. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife of 57 years, Ruth Estelle Coleman; stepmother, Mary Ellis Coleman and brother, JC Coleman of Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Coleman is survived by his second wife, Joan F. Coleman of Naples, Fla.; son, Thomas Carroll Coleman Jr. and wife Susan of Mountain Home, Ark.; daughter, Kathleen C. Hurdle and husband William F. Hurdle of Mansfield, OH; son James H. Coleman of Oak Ridge, Tenn. He had four grandchildren, Stephen C. Coleman of Nashville, Tenn., Jason T. Coleman and wife Angela Dyer of Franklin, Tenn., David F. Coleman and wife Stephanie of Nashville, Tenn., and Catherine H. Madden and husband David of Mansfield, Ohio. He had two great-grandchildren, Ainsley C. Coleman and Wyatt P. Coleman of Franklin, Tenn. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral following at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Cabot, Ark.
