Don Carlos "Dude" Spence, 81, died November 25, 2012, at his home in Ward, Arkansas, among his family and friends. Dude was born July 16, 1931 in Old Austin, Arkansas to Hayward and Donnie Spence. A graduate and longtime supporter of Cabot High School, Dude was one of the members of the 2009 Cabot Panther Education Foundation Inaugural Hall of Fame. Dude served many roles in his community, county and state, including Cabot School Board and Lonoke County Judge, for which he served for 16 years. A hardworking "farmer," Dude encouraged everyone he met to be involved in their community and to put family first. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margie Dean Spence; his four children, Carla Baldwin, Paula Vance, Kevin Spence and Stacey (Jimmy) McMinn; 11 grandchildren, Todd Baldwin, Clay (Kerry) Baldwin, Whitney (Chris) Dickens, Josh Dorton, Blair Baldwin, Myka (Keith) Galloway, Taylor Spence, Spence Hart, Mackenzie Spence, Madison Hart and Brannon McMinn; three great-grandchildren, Zoe Baldwin, Wren Baldwin and Talin Galloway, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Cabot, with Will Feland officiating. The family will welcome friends at their home following the service. The family requests that memorial donations be made to The Margie and Dude Spence Scholarship, through the Cabot Scholarship Foundation, 200 E.
