Evelyn Horton Harris, age 97, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, John William and Imola Leonard Horton; her husband, George Rice Harris; a brother and two sisters. She was a native of Arkansas and had resided in Florida since 1998. She is survived by son George (Lynda) Harris of Boerne, Texas, and daughter Nancy (Ed) Owen of DeFuniak Springs; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She attended Judkins Business College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and did undergraduate work at Arkansas A&M, Monticello, and Grand Canyon College, Phoenix, Arizona. At her retirement, Evelyn has 28 years of combined services for Jefferson County and the state of Arkansas, as Juvenile Probation Officer and Investigative Officer for Probate and Chancery Court for Jefferson County, and in the Administrative Juvenile Correctional Division for the State of Arkansas. She was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, a member and twice President of the Pilot Club of Pine Bluff, a member of the DAR, John McAlmont Chapter. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435, with Dr. Bobby Tucker officiating and Eulogy by Dr. George Harris. Floral arrangements are being accepted or donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Preschool and Academy at 216 East Liveoak Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
