Maxine Virden

Maxine Hays Virden of Atkins, Arkansas, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2012. Her faithful Christian example was evidenced in love and service to her family. She made friends easily, accumulating lasting relationships in the communities of Western Grove, Jasper, Leslie, Dover and Atkins while supporting her husband's career of school administration. While living in Dover, Maxine was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Extension Homemakers Club. After moving to Atkins, she worshipped with the Memorial Presbyterian Church congregation. Even though she was a gentlewoman, committed mother and homemaker, she could hold her own playing dominoes and riding, sometimes racing, four wheelers. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman Lester (Sime) and Annie Nance Hays; a sister, Wanda Lee (Peachie) Coffman; and a brother James Don Hays. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, J.D. Virden of Russellville; son, Kelton Virden of Morrilton; son Kim Virden and wife Sue of Dover; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 2nd from 4-6 p.m. at Lemley's Funeral Home in Atkins. Funeral services will be Monday, December 3rd, 10 a.m. at the Dover Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the Churchill Family Cemetery in Dover. Memorials may be made to Choices Pregnancy Resource Center, P.O. Box 394, Russellville, Arkansas 72811.
