James Oscar Smith of the Ico Community, near Sheridan, Ark., was born July 11, 1928 at Warren, the son of the late Charles and Jewel Oliver Smith. He was a very proud member and deacon of East End Baptist Church and truly had a servant's heart for being active in church work and activities. James was retired from Cotton Belt/Southern Pacific Railroad. Some years back, he was active in the Lion's Club and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He cherished his role as dad and grandpa and spent much of his time with his family. Mr. Smith died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 84. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Koen Smith and a son, Terry Smith. Survivors include his sons, James L. Smith of Ico Community, Clyde and wife Misty Smith of Sheridan, Gerald and wife, Kelly Smith of Mayflower; daughter-in-law, Carla Smith of Ico Community; sisters, Iris Evans, Patsy Fowler, and Charlotte Garrett, all of White Hall; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A host of other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at East End Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in the Ico Community. Visitation will be Monday, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to East End Baptist Church Building Fund, 4701 East End Road, Hensley, Ark. 72065.
