ETHEL ROGERS (SALLY) LAIDLAW, 87, of North Little Rock passed away on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012. She was born on Jan. 23, 1925 in Dallas, Texas to the late Emmie Hays and James Wesley Rogers. She was also the wife of the late Carl C. Laidlaw. She is survived by her children, Sara Laidlaw (Ruth Ann Bagnall) of Houston, Texas and Jim Laidlaw (Anne) of North Little Rock; grandchildren, Jason Laidlaw of Houston, Texas, Laura Corcoran (Greg) of North Little Rock and Hays Laidlaw of North Little Rock. Sally was a high school English teacher for over 30 years and taught British and American literature to honors students. She loved teaching kids to THINK most of all and was rarely happier than she was in a classroom filled with bright, aggressive and outspoken students. Teaching was her love, her passion and her primary identity. She was an avid reader and surrounded herself with the books she so loved. Her love for poetry was always in evidence and can be attested to by all who knew her. Up to the day she died, Sally entertained visitors with poetry recitations. She thrived on spirited debates on politics, literature and religion. She was an incredibly positive person who tried to find the good in everyone and never liked to think of anyone as a lost cause. She loved nothing more than analyzing a problem and finding the perfect solution. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 3 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, with visitation immediately afterwards. Following the service and visitation, the family invites friends, family and former students to join them at Sally's home at 30 Kings River Road in North Little Rock.
