Wallace Luther Chandler

Wallace Luther Chandler, 71, of West Memphis, Arkansas died Tuesday, September 3, 2012 in the presence of his loving family. Wallace Chandler was born in Dyess, Arkansas on July 15, 1941 and was raised on a farm near Tyronza, Arkansas. After graduating from Wilson High School in 1959, he attended Arkansas State Teachers College and was a 4 year letterman for the Bears football team. He later received his Masters in Administration from Memphis State University. Mr. Chandler began his teaching and coaching career at Shawnee High School in Joiner, Arkansas before accepting a position as a teacher and coach at West Junior High School and the West Memphis School District. Wallace spent many years as an administrator in the West Memphis School District which included 19 years as Athletic Director. One of Mr. Chandler's greatest honors was being inducted into the Arkansas High School Athletic Directors Hall of Fame in 2008. Mr. Chandler retired from the West Memphis School system after 30 years and went on to work for the corporate office of Flash Market Inc. in West Memphis. Mr. Chandler is remembered as a generous, loving husband and father as well as a respected educator who inspired the lives of many students. He remained dedicated to athletics, education, friends, and family throughout his life His warm, friendly demeanor will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched over the years. Mr. Chandler is survived by his loving wife, Mimi Chandler of West Memphis, Arkansas; five sons, Jeff Chandler of Knoxville, Tennessee, Benjamin Chandler of Little Rock, Arkansas, Matthew Chandler of Memphis, Tennessee, Mark Chandler of Memphis, Tennessee, and Christopher Chandler of Little Rock, Arkansas; four grandchildren; one sister, Jane Chandler of Whitton, Arkansas and one brother Lindsay Chandler of Whitton, Arkansas. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Deneke Hall at the West Memphis First United Methodist Church on Thursday September 6, 2012. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the West Memphis First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow the service at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Arkansas. The family requests that memorials be made to the West Memphis First United Methodist Church.
